Why Finale
Around Finale Ligure there is a network of about 90 mountain bike trails, more than 400 kilometres in all. Many start on the Apennine ridges, at around a thousand metres, and descend towards the sea: there are few places in the world where a descent ends near the beach. The terrain is rocky and technical, with flowier sections through oak and chestnut woods.
Trail areas
- NATO Base: the flowiest area, with trails such as Base Nato, Madre Natura and Sentiero H, plus the Ingegnere down to Feglino.
- Melogno and the Rollercoaster: the ridge where many long descents towards Calice begin.
- Le Manie: the plateau between Finale and Noli, above the sea, home of the historic 24 Hours of Finale.
- The steepest trails: rocky, technical descents for experienced riders.
Shuttles, rentals and guides
Descents are designed one-way: to get back up you use shuttles, vans that carry bikes and riders to the top so you can ride far more descent in a day. In town there are around ten bike shops with rentals, repairs and up-to-date trail conditions; many also offer guides and skills courses.
Finale Outdoor Region
The trails are looked after by a consortium, the Finale Outdoor Region, which handles maintenance and the impact of tourism. It is also supported by the FOR You card: spending at member businesses turns part of the money into a donation for the trails. The area hosts world-class racing: in May 2025 the opening round of the UCI Enduro World Cup was held between Pietra Ligure and Finale.
When to go
You can ride all year: winters are mild and many riders come between autumn and spring. The highest Apennine trails are at their best from June to October. In midsummer, start early in the morning.
Where to stay
