Blue Flag 2026

In 2026 the Blue Flag, the Foundation for Environmental Education's award for water quality and services, went to Finale Ligure for the beaches of Castelletto San Donato, Varigotti, Spiaggia del Porto, Finalpia, Finalmarina and Malpasso. Neighbouring Borgio Verezzi received it too, for Ex Sati, Rio Batorezza and Rio Bottasano.

Finale Marina

The town-centre beach, along the seafront promenade: sand and fine shingle, with many equipped beach clubs. It is handy if you arrive by train, as the station is close, and for families, with cafés, restaurants and shops a few steps away.

Finalpia

East of the centre, sand and shingle with a gently sloping seabed. It is quieter than Finale Marina and good for small children.

Varigotti and Malpasso

Varigotti is part of Finale Ligure: the colourful fishermen's houses face straight onto a golden sandy beach, with shallow water for a good stretch. Between Finale and Varigotti lies Malpasso beach, also a 2026 Blue Flag. On the headland behind Varigotti runs the Sentiero del Pellegrino, with views over the sea.

Coves and rocks

For clear water and fewer people there are the coves, such as those at Punta Crena in Varigotti. You reach them by sea or along trails that are not always easy, and there are no beach clubs: bring water, shade and water shoes. They are ideal for snorkelling.

The sea at Borgio Verezzi

A few minutes from Finale, Borgio Verezzi has sand and pebble beaches, with beach clubs and free beaches. They are five minutes from Perla del Borgo. To discover the rest of the village, read our Borgio Verezzi guide.

Practical tips

  • In July and August it is worth booking a sunbed and umbrella a few days ahead.
  • Free beaches fill up early: arrive in the morning.
  • June and September are the nicest months, with warm water and fewer crowds.
  • On the rocks you will need water shoes and, in the coves, everything for the day.
